Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is returning to the River Run Centre on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 at 7:30pm with The Nutcracker.
The ballet will once again offer the opportunity for local dance students to perform with the professional dancers of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen.
Nutcracker auditions are scheduled for Sept. 8.
Interested young dancers between the ages of 8 and 17 years are asked to register online at Canada’s Ballet Jörgen website www.balletjorgencanada.ca.
In the weeks leading up to the performance, the selected students will rehearse regularly at Royal City School of Ballet and Theatre Jazz Inc in Guelph.
Choreographed by Bengt Jörgen to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s well-loved score, this re-working of the timeless classic is born from a collaboration with Kleinburg’s world-renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection of The Group of Seven paintings.
Ballet Jörgen’s The Nutcracker features as a backdrop, Canada’s 20th Century landscape artists Franklin Carmichael’s Church and Houses at Bisset (1931), Tom Thomson’s Snow in the Woods (1916) and L.L. FitzGerald’s Trees and Wildflowers (1922).
Audiences embark on a grand journey through our northern lands filled with snowflakes, trilliums and woodland creatures.
Roles such as Deer, Beaver, Frog, Dragonfly, Squirrel and Bear Cub will be filled by young dancers selected during the auditions on Sept. 8.
Founded in 1987, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is a classical ballet company with the mandate of making ballet accessible and relevant to 21st century audiences.
